Now the secound week of the CBD COP 11 begins.
We want to start early today to join the morning meetings at the COP. I am the first for breakfast, although I came later than the time we stipulated. We all didn't sleep enough and need some time to get started. Alex, Svana and I drive ahead the other to get to the CBD Alliance meeting at time.
At the NGO meeting we talk about, what is going on today in the negotiations, the contact groups and the firends of the chair meetings. Afterward we discuss the nominations for the Dodo Award. Brazil, Canada, Spain, Paraguay, EU, China, India and UK are considered and open to debate.
Later the German delegations meets again and we coordinate the organization of this week. The High Level Segment will start this week. Also we as GYBN will give two side events. Tomorrow evening our first side event with the introduction of GYBN will take place. On Thursday the secound side event about "International youth initiatives for the protection of biodiversity" will happen. On Wednesday we will give two press conferences. At the first one we will award the dodo to countries, which disrupted the negotiations the most. Furthermore there will be a press conference from us youth together with the Women Caucus about "Youth and Gender". On Thursday another press conference is given to award the Busy Bee to constructive countries in the negotiations. Also we have to draft an other intervention for the High Level Segment. There is a lot to do ...
In the afternoon I participate the negotiations about inland waters, which are really successful. Later we meet the German delegation and sign the letter for Altmeier, the German minister for environment, to ask for his presence at the High Level Segment of the CBD COP 11. Gertrud Sahler, the head of the department for Nature Conservation at the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, arrived in Hyderabad today and joins our meeting with the Germans.
In the evening we discuss and organize our events for this week during the daily GYBN meeting. Different working groups treat the press conferences, our side events, the action "Joining hands for Biodiversity" as well as logistic and media issues.
Hardly wiped out we are going home and rest to be fit for the next day.
On the NAJU-Blog you find a german version!
